Are you missing any of these 6 executive functions?
So what are executive functions? Simply the brain functions which enable the ability for organisation, planning, self-monitoring, self-control, working memory, time management, and adaptable thinking. ADHD seriously affects our executive functions and is the root cause for so many of our struggles.
Here are the 6 key executive functions:
Organisation in life and work When we are often late, forget things, lose things, turn up on the wrong day or to the wrong place, it can get us down as well as annoying others around us. Organisation using specific tools and systems built easily into our daily routine can remove all of these embarrassing situations. Decluttering & clean spaces Some of us struggle to maintain physical order in our living space, work space (desk drawers, handbag / rucksack or in our pockets. In order to be organise our time it really helps to learn to keep our physical spaces clean and tidy. It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. Procrastination is not laziness! It’s a symptom of one or more of the following: anxiety, perfection, fear of failure, fear of criticism, avoidance, low self esteem, a tendency to self defeat, depression. Some of us struggle to start tasks, some have more trouble with task completion and many of us struggle with both! If you are forgetful and struggle to remember where you put your to-do list, then you need a new way! Routines and check lists are an excellent way of becoming more organised about things we do on a regular basis. I have developed a simple system which can help you not only to get things done but to be able to learn how to estimate the time a task will take you (very important if you also don’t want to be late for the next thing). Time blindness is an inability to track time, to involuntarily lose oneself in an activity causing total disregard for other commitments, appointments or people. Time blindness is commonly associated with neuro diverse brains ie. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) but not exclusively. Feeling misunderstood, disconnected, rejected and lonely can be upsetting and over prolonged periods can be destructive to our sense of self. Blindspots around our own behaviours can lead to being misunderstood in social interactions. Emotional Intelligence (E.I.) is a term used to describe the ability to perceive, control and evaluate emotions. Our E.I. can be developed through coaching and greatly raises our feelings of happiness and fulfilment.Procrastination
